Q:

What would cause a clicking and humming sound when I try to start my Maytag model SDG515DAWW dryer that doesn't run either?

A:

The information in the question title section seems to say the motor is not running but the information in the question detail section seems to indicate the problem is with the coils.

From the description you give the clicking sound might be coming from the radiant sensor.

You say the igniter comes on and you hear a clicking sound from the coils.

The radiant sensor does making a distinctive "click" sound after the ignitor glows. When the sensor clicks the voltage that was applied to the ignitor is transferred to the coils and if there is no flame then coils or valve is the problem.

If the motor is not running and the ignitor is glowing then the motor switch is bad.

The coils can be check for resistance if you have access to a volt/ohm meter and are confident using it.

Another consideration is the price of the parts. The 12001349 coil kit is approximately $45 dollars while the 37001002 entire valve assembly is about $86 dollars. Both can be obtained from the following link: Sears PartsDirect .

I hope this information is helpful to you but submit another question with additional details for further assistance.
