Q:

why did my freezer quit freezing? SCD23VW-P1315303WW Amana Side by side refrigerator

A:

Thanks for the information about your refrigerator model SCD23VW; sorry you are having a problem, I will be glad to assist you. Based on your description of the freezer not operating as best possible I will give you a few tips that may help. First thing to check is the condition of the condenser coil under the bottom back of the refrigerator unit. You will need to pull the unit out from the wall or if you have a vacuum hose nozzle the coil can be cleaned from the front. If the coil has a buildup of lint and dust this can cause overheating of the compressor and the freezer will not reach coldest temperatures. If you find the coil is clean and determine that is not the issue, then open the freezer door and see if there is a heavy frost buildup of frost on the back of the freezer section. If you see this heavy frosting of the coil that would indicate that a defrost problem exists or that the freezer door may have been left open causing frost. (if door was left open frost would be on food and shelves  as well as back panel in freezer) You can manually defrost your refrigerator by removing the food, unplug and open doors allowing 8-10 hours to melt frost. Be prepared to deal with dripping water to floor.  If this frosting reoccurs with in five to seven days I strongly suggest calling for service as there are more detailed issues that will need inspected.   If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services. Ron H.
