Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Jenn-air model#S136 and the door locked during cleaning and have not been able to open it...I did this on monday S136 Jenn-air Range

A:

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your Jen-air range model S136. I am so sorry the door did not unlock after the cleaning cycle. I will be happy to help you with this.

There are 4 issues that could prevent the door from unlocking. The latch mechanism may have failed and needs to be replaced. The thermostat may be faulty. When you use the self-cleaning cycle, the door will not unlock until the internal temperature of the oven has dropped to a certain degree. It is an important safety feature because if you open the door too soon, the sudden change in temperature on the inside of the door glass could cause it to shatter. The cool down period is normally a few hours so if you haven’t checked the lock again you may want to check it to see if the door has unlocked. The clean relay may need to be replaced. The other possible issue is the solenoid or solenoid latch switch has failed and needs to be replaced.

If the door still hasn’t unlocked, you should be able to unlock the door by accessing the lock latch motor assembly. You will need to remove the control panel and the screws securing the latch assembly. If the control panel and touch pad are attached by adhesive do not attempt to remove the mylar panel.

SAFETY WARNING: Disconnect the power supply before beginning your repair to prevent the risk of electrical shock which can result in property damage, serious personal injury or even death. If you are not comfortable completing this repair, you can set up service at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME).

I hope this answers your question. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

Q:

Why can't I open my Jenn-Air oven door after auto clean, model number S136? Can you help?

A:

In reference to your Jen-Air oven;

When the self clean cycle is selected the door will automatically lock and the Door Locked icon will be displayed.

During the self clean cycle, the oven gets extremely hot (about 900 degrees Fahrenheit) to burn off dirt , debris and grease from spills. The door will continue to stay locked until the unit has cooled down to a safer temperature (below 600 degrees Fahrenheit), which can take anywhere from 1-2 hours.

Possible causes for door not unlocking :

  • Latch mechanism
    • Replace latch mechanism
  • Thermostat
    • Replace Thermostat
  • Clean relay
    • Replace clean relay
  • Solenoid or solenoid latch switch
