Question and Answers

Q:

Why does my dryer produce heat but won't dry the clothes?

A:

Since your dryer is an electric dryer and you said that it's heating but won't dry clothes, take the vent hose off the dryer and then dry a load of clothes. If it dries normally with the vent hose disconnected the venting system is restricted or the outside vent cap is stuck closed or stopped up. Also, be sure to confirm that the dryer drum is rotating when the dryer is running. There are three elements needed to dry clothes, heat, tumbling action and air flow.

If the clothes still take a long time to dry the air temperature should be check at the dryer exhaust. On the high heat setting it should reach around 150 degrees. If it does not reach the 150 degrees I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dryer.

You most likely a have restricted vent system causing your problem.
