Q:

Hello I have a Sharp micowave model r-1612 And i need to replace the door cover only not the door just the cover on the door. Can you be of any help?? Regards

A:

I am sorry you are experiencing difficulties with your Microwave. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. I strongly suggest that you have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. I have provided a link To Sears Home Services if you decide to schedule service. If you think it may be cost effective to just replace the unit, I have also provided a link to the Microwave section of Sears.com to price out what a replacement would cost.

I'm afraid you won't find much do-it-yourself microwave help. Microwaves do not make good do-it-yourself projects. Even unplugged that can retain a lethal amount of voltage. Doors must seal properly or there can be microwave leakage. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a lethal electrical charge of up to 2200 VAC -- even when the microwave is unplugged. Repairs and adjustments, even minor ones such as a door repair, can cause microwave leakage. A microwave shielding leakage test should be performed after any microwave service. It is for these safety reasons that we are unable to guide you in microwave repairs and instead recommend scheduling service with a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME. We thank you for your understanding in this matter and hope we can help you with other questions and repairs in the future.

Q:

Sharp R1612 OTR Microwave. How do you disassemble the door ?

A:

Doors on a microwave are like a shield and could create an unsafe condition if it's not correctly installed and checked by a technician. It has to be tested with a meter to meet specific guide lines. I'm listing a site you can check to have a technician come out to make this repair. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
