Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't. My maytag cloths dryer start up

A:

I know how important it is to have a good working dryer in the home so that you can dry your freshly washed clothes. I am sorry for the inconvenience and I did manage to find a link with a similar question. Click here for the link. I hope this helps with your research while you wait for your expert response.

Hi,

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance not working.

The problem is that the thermal fuse could be the problem if it has opened up and the light will not light up and the dryer will not have a neutral and if this is the case the motor will not start up either.  The fuse is located on the heater housing and the  link for the dryer is here.

NOTE:

Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service.

Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The model number you provided is of a dryer and not the washer.

Reply in the post with the model number of the washer and I will be able to assist you.

Q:

why wont my maytag dryer start

A:

From what you’re describing it sounds like the thermal fuse has blown. The thermal fuse will stop the unit from running if an overheating condition is sensed. You will have an overheating condition if the exhaust vent is too long or restricted. A shorted heating element will also cause overheating & blow the thermal (safety) fuse. This type of testing will require using a multimeter to check the thermal fuse & other suspect components. Please see the diagram provided below outlining the path of voltage to the motor. Thermal fuse; LA-1053 www.searspartsdirect.com Other possibilities; timer, motor or wiring harness problems.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks that might be recommended, please contact your local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.
