Question and Answers

Q:

What can cause the refrigerator and freezer temps. to fluctuate from 0 to 60?

A:

Temperatures will fluctuate if there is not much of a load in the freezer. By this I mean, if the freezer is less than half full. In these units, the fan will also run without the compressor running. There is a separate sensor in the refrigerator that will bring the fan on at times. This is feature to keep the refrigerator cool, without having to run the compressor. The recommended temperature for the fridge section is 36-38 degrees. By unplugging and reconnecting it that fast, the compressor cannot come back on that quick. It will trip out the overload and it can take more then 5 minutes to come back on. If this temperature fluctuation happens maybe once a day or every other day, for a short time, then cools back down, I suspect it's either stuck in the defrost cycle or there is a small load in the freezer. If it occurs more often, it could be a sensor, board or damper causing it. A volt/ohm meter will be required to make these checks. A technician may be needed. If you need more assistance, you can resubmit your question with more details.
