Q:

How to unlock GE stove Screen

A:

I know it can be very frustrating to have an appliance you depend on break down, especially your G E Stove. Managemylife.com is always a great resource to find answers to just about anything. I would suggest that you provide the model # and any other information that you think may help your expert respond with the best possible response. Just click on reply below and then add your information. I did do some research for you at managemylife and found an expert answer to a similar question. This may shed some light on the problem until your expert can respond. The link has been attached below.

On many GE Profile ranges, the 9 and 0 buttons on the keypad control the lockout feature. Try pressing and holding those buttons at the same time for 3 deliberate seconds. Check the control for other lockout features. Some GE ranges have a Gas Control lockout button. This button would need to pressed and held for 3 deliberate seconds if it is present on your range. If you have the owner's manual, you can find more information on the lockout feature in that document. If you need more help, reply with additional details and the full model number of your range (if possible).

I have the same problem. I've tried the 3 second hold, but it doesn't work. I believe I'm holding for a full 3 seconds, but don't have a second hand clock to ensure that. My model # is JS 9688QK488. This has happened once before and I wasn't able to get it unlocked for about a week. One day, my daughter did it, but says she didn't push any button for 3 seconds (although the instructions on the stove say to do it). I did not purchase this stove, it was in our home when I bought the home, so not sure how old it is and don't have the manual. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello Kelly. I did not find information on that exact model number JS9688WK488. On a GE range that begins with JS968 . . ., you will normally need to press and hold the 9 and the 0 digit on the keypad for 3 deliberate seconds (count very slowly; it does not matter if you hold the keys for longer). This should unlock the controls. There should be instructions below those digits on the control pad that indicate how to lock and unlock the controls. If you have a different type of control on your GE range, reply with additional details (or a digital picture of your control) and we will assist you further.

Hi Lyle. Thanks for your response. I will double-check the model #. I looked on the inside of the oven at a metal piece that had information on it. My range shows the digits and below the 9 and 10 it says lock/unlock hold for 3 seconds. It is definitely a GE stove. The model # is J S968B0K4BB. I am not sure if the 0 is a number or the letter O. It says also to refer to serial #: VM2 52434Q and to tell the color, which is black, but I don't know why the color would be important. I held it for over 3 seconds, but nothing happened. All buttons are locked, except if I push the button that says 'clear". When I pus that button, it beeps, which I think is normal because it has always beeped when the oven buttons worked. I can open the stove and the light comes on. The top of the range works, just none of the buttons that controls the bake, convection, etc. portion for the oven part of the stove.

Hello Kelly. I provided a link for the owner's manual on that range below this response. I verified that pressing the 9 and 0 digits at the same time and holding them for 3 deliberate seconds should disable the control lock. You can try that procedure again if you think that it may work. Be sure that you press those keys at exactly the same time and hold them down firmly. You can check through the manual and see if you can find any other remedies. Make sure that the range is not in the Sabbath mode. If you cannot regain the proper operation of that control, then that component may need to be replaced. Let us know if we can help you further with this problem.

Thanks Lyle. I wasn't sure if I had to hold both of the numbers at the same time or not. I'll definitely check this out. I thought perhaps it did need to be replaced and have thought of replacing the complete stove. The way the numbers are, if you have to reach to get one of the pots toward the back of the stove, if you are short like me, you may hit a button and turn off the oven or get lots of beeps to turn it on. It's a pain LOL Thanks again for your help.

:) I tried holding both 9 and 0, but it didn't work, so I went to see what you meant by Sabbath mode. I then went to see if following the procedures would give me the SF sign, but it didn't. However, it unlocked the stove and I can now use it! Thanks so much. It must have been in SF mode. Thanks again :)

I've got the same problem with my GE Profile 30" single wall oven. PT916SM1SS - HM621864Q. Tried both the 9 and 0 and Sabbath mode moves, but keypad still locked and inoperative except for clear / off beep, though interior lights are own - and wasting money. Oven did this on its own after baking a pizza at 385* x 20 mins. Any thoughts other than powering circuit breaker off and on and seeing what happens? Did I mention it's just 23 days out of warranty? >:(
