Q:

Water Dispenser PSS26SGRESS Ge Refrigerator r series

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your refrigerator and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number pss26sgress and the most likely reason for this will be a stuck water valve but it could also be a stuck switch or a short in the wiring. A good check will be to disconnect the power cord and turn the water valve back on. If water still flows from the dispenser, it indicates the valve is stuck and will need to be replaced. Based on your description of the problem it sounds like you have determined that the leaking is from the actual water dispenser part of the dispenser assembly. If this is correct there are a couple things that can cause water to leak from the water tube. First if there is air in the water reservoir or gases in your water supply water will drip out. Purging water reservoir will solve this problem.

If water constantly comes from the dispenser tube (more than a drip) then yes the problem is most often the inlet valve and it has to be replaced as no repair kits are available. It is very unlikely that the switch under the paddle is sticking. Try pushing in and out quickly several times to see if it helps. I have seen time when juices or colas splash from glass and build up a sticky residue on switch. Cleaning will correct this. Always disconnect power supply before servicing appliance. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. I trust this information will help you.

Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.

Q:

What is the problem when my dispenser does not work at all on GE Profile Refrigerator?

A:

Core Issue: Water and Ice dispenser is not working, light flashes when dispenser is pressed. This problem can occur when the dispenser is locked. Your dispenser has a 'lock' feature to prevent accidental activation by small children, pets etc. This feature deactivates the dispenser pads or levers.

To deactivate lock feature:

  1. Locate Lock Control pad on control panel.
  2. Press and hold pad for 3 seconds.
  3. Dispense water or ice.

Note: General information for resolution of problem is based on information that was submitted with question. Please contact a certified technician if problem persist. Sears Repair Department 1-800-469-4663

HELP-I have same problem and cycling the Lock Control makes no difference. This condition has happened approx 20 times over last 3 months. Sometimes lasts hours to days. Then it randomly it will work a day or so. Could it be a bad electrolytic capacitor on the interface board? Thanks, Tom

Thank you for your question. I know it can be disappointing when the ice dispenser stops working. The information you have received is correct. It would be very unlikely that the harness has failed but to determine for sure, you would need to access the motor itself and make a voltage check at the motor. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will assist you further.
