Q:

PNM1871SM1SS microwave stopped heating PNM1871SM1SS Ge Microwave

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your questions about your GE Microwave. I am so sorry to hear it stopped heating. I know what a time saver the microwave is and know you want to get it fixed as quickly as possible. In this case, I suggest you have it repaired by a qualified technician.

We do not give advice on repairing microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged from the outlet. You need special equipment to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663). Here at SearsPartsDirect.com we love to help you with your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous for a do-it-yourself project.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with your future questions and repairs. Thank you for choosing Sears and using our SearsPartsDirect.com service.

I checked for any known problems or common issues with the glass tray breaking on this type of GE microwave. I did not find any known issues or common problems. There is a chance that the glass tray had a defect and that it finally cracked. You could have a problem with the microwave that caused the tray to overheat. I recommend that you have the microwave examined by a technician. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

The cost of the tray is around $100. The service call to check the microwave will probably cost over $130. You may consider replacing that microwave instead of repairing it. The Sears.com website has some microwaves listed for just over $200. Here is one example of a current model: Kenmore 30 in. Microhood Combination - 8503 .

Yes, there is a fuse that has probably blown. However, I strongly recommend having a technician check and make this repair. Microwaves inherently store 10,000 volts of electricity even when the microwave is unplugged which can cause serious bodily harm or could even be fatal. I recommend taking the microwave in for repair or call a service technician to come out to repair your microwave. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a technician come out or to take it to the nearest service center. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
