Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when doing the repair work  on your GE refrigerator.

These are the best instructions that I could find.   Hope it helps.

1.  Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet or turn off the refrigerator breaker in your home's service panel.

2.  Grasp the control panel by the bottom, then pull the bottom away from the dispenser. Once the bottom is released, pull the top away from the dispenser.

Thanks for the reply, but I had tried that. There is one screw near the ice chute, pointing upward which I have removed. Pulling out at the bottom does not seem to be how the front of the display comes off. I can deflect it a small amount but it looks like it will just break if I pull any harder. The small square hole under the right front edge looks like it would be some kind of release, but poking a small screw driver in it does not do anything. The panel has resumed working correctly for the past day, but it has done this many times before.

It's nice to know when the filter needs to be replaced. The status of the filter will be displayed on the home screen of the display (see picture). I'm also attaching the pictures and information, if you want to select the setting screen, to check the filter status. It may be easier for you to see this, in the owners manual. I hope this will help you. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
