Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I will be more than happy to assist you. I can understand any frustration you may have experienced with regards to your unit. Let’s see what we can do for you.

Looking at the information for this spring I’m showing the reason why it’s so hard to find the part number for the spring itself is because I’m showing the cable has it attached to it. So to replace the spring you need to replace the cable. I’m showing the part number that comes with both of them would be 172758. Click here to get more information/ ordering this part from our website.

Hope this information has helped you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can click here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663. Again, thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. It sounds like you have two problems with the tractor. First lets try to find what is causing it not to drive. I recommend checking the belt routing first. There should be a diagram of the belt routing in the manual or on the underside of the footrest. If the belt is routed fine, I recommend looking at the brake lever on the transaxle. If the lever is stuck back, the brake is on. This would cause the belt to smoke. The first image below shows the break lever and the position it should be in when released. If the break is stuck, spray the backside of the lever with WD40 and work the lever by hand. Once it is freed check the operation. If it still will not drive I suspect there is a bent part under the tractor. If you are unable to determine what is bent I recommend having a service technician check it out. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Now lets move to the shifting problem. On the front of the transmission, on top, you will see plug (key#21). See image below for location of key #21.. Remove that plug. Be careful doing that because there is a little spring (key#22) under it that is subject to jump out and get away. That would be a bad thing. When you have the cover off, drop several drops of oil down the hole. I prefer to use something my Marvel Mystery Oil for that, but you can use whatever light oil you have on hand. While the cover is still off, hold your finger over it and have someone move the shifter from gear to gear a few times. Then drop a little more oil down the hole. Put the cover back on. Move the gears some more. If you still have the problem, it may get better the more you move the shifter around. If it doesn't get any better or gets worse, then I'd say you have an internal shifting problem. That would be something you'd need a qualified technician to tend to. I have attached a drawing to use as a reference.

I hope this is helpful. Please reply below with more details if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
