spin cycle PAVT244AWW Maytag Maytag laundry

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. I regret to hear that you are having issues with your washer and do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number PAVT244AWW and from your description it seems like the timer is bad. If you pull and advance the knob a click then push in again and repeat until the machine begins to spin or the cycles ends. If it works after advancing it a few clicks you will need to replace the timer. If it does not work and you reach the end of the cycle you may have a bad lid switch or actuatorI have included a link to our PartsDirect page where you can purchase the part you need to complete your repair. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. If you have further questions please resubmit your question for further information.

A:

Joe, from the description you give I suspect you are correct about the transmission. If the agitator is trying to spin then the transmission is the problem. If the agitator is okay but the tub is trying to spin then the problem is likely with the brake. The 35-6615 transmission cost about $268 dollars and would be a moderately difficult do-it-yourself. I would suggest you check the ads over the holidays and compare new washer to repair of the old.
