Question and Answers

Q:

washer will not agitate but will spin. Is the motor faulty? PAV2360AWW Maytag Washer

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your washer will not agitate.

It sounds to me like the agitator base is stripped and not allowing the agitator to agitate.

I recommend taking the agitator apart and checking the base to see if it is stripped.

21001530 is the part number.
If the motor was faulty then the unit would not spin as well. The next part to check would be the lid switch.

You can also visit searpartsdirect.com for parts, diagrams, and repair information.

The agitator base is in good shape. The motor hums during the agitator cycle and will drain during the spin cycle. I changed the snubber ring and when I put it back into operation the agitator would not work. Could I have created a problem? I followed the correct procedure to replace the snubber. Hope this additional info will be helpful. Thanks Dave

If the washer will spin then the motor and lid switch are most likely okay. If the motor is running but the washer is not agitating then the most likely problem is a bad transmission.

If the motor is turning in agitation and the belt is turning the large drive pulley but there is no agitation then most likely the transmission is bad and needs to be replaced.

Click here for videos on how to test the transmission.

I do recommend double checking the snubber to make sure it was installed correctly.

Hi Tony,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

If your washer will not drain:

  1. Check for restricted drain system. Make sure the drain pump is not locked up.
  2. In cold climates check for frozen drain hose.
  3. Check tub to pump hose for twist in hose.
  4. Check for broken impeller on Drain Pump. Washer should drain all water within 90 seconds.
