Q:

Polulan Head for gas trimmer P4500

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
Both of the models provided use the same gearbox above the head, so I wouldn't see any issue with the trimmer head swap. I agree, I am not a big fan of the hassle free heads for the exact reason you've pointed out.
In regards to the Types. The Types are essentially revisions to the previous model/type. So, P4500F would be the original model, Type 1 is the first revision to the original model, and Type 2 would be the 2nd revision to the original model.
Unfortunately, the manufacturer typically doesn't specify what the grounds are for the revision. It could be a carb change-out to meet emission standards, or it could be the original model had a faulty part that had to be changed on subsequent models. We usually don't have the reasoning for the revision unless it's a recall type situation, which this model doesn't have any recalls; it looks pretty clean all away around.
If you wanted to get specifics on the revisions, you could contact either Poulan or Husqvarna (parent company) to inquire, they should have the specific reasons.
Outside of that, I wouldn't see any issue with the head swap. Hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
