Question and Answers

Q:

How do I replace a fuse in microwave oven? NN-S262bf

A:

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your microwave. I am so sorry it has stopped rotating and heating food. I know what a time saver the microwave is and I am sure you want this issue fixed quickly.  In this case I recommend you have the microwave serviced by a qualified technician.

We do not give diagnostic or repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged from the power supply. Special equipment is needed to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after ANY/ALL microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663). Here at SearsPartsDirect.com we love to help you with your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous for a do-it-yourself project.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with any other questions and repairs in the future. Thank you for choosing Sears.

Thanks you Carlos for your prompt reply! Prior to ordering the part I was chatting with two of the reps & I asked if it was easy to replace the fuse. I was told it is super easy & whether I would like to proceed with the order! I also made it clear I am a novice & need directions. The rep promptly sent me a link to this page to post my question! Was it just to make the sale? No caveats, no warnings! Thanks again for alerting me.

Q:

testing high voltage diodes on NN-S266BF NN--S262BF

A:

Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com

I am sorry, but we do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. That's why I strongly warn you to have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME.
Normally at ManageMyLife.com we like to help you with all of your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous.

Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com

I appreciate your concern, however there are two things to note: - I am a journeyman communications electrician, fully qualified to work on high voltage circuits and very aware of and experienced with the hazards. - The unit is already apart on my work bench. Bearing those things in mind, I believe you should be able to answer my question, from an ethical and safety point of view. To repeat, is an ohm meter capable of measuring up to 40 megohms capable of testing the high voltage diodes in a Panasonic model NN-S262BF inverter?
