Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom and details I would suspect the belt idler pulley causing the noise or possibly one of the support rollers. You may try removing the idler pulley and cleaning the shaft then re-assemble the dryer and then see if there is any change. Note: Do NOT lubricate the axle or pulley because it would attract lint and dirt causing more noises. You could try a just a little lubricate just see if it stops the noises and then wipe the axle clean. If it does, then I would replace the idler pulley and possibly the idler pulley shaft.

Q:

How do I access and change the drive belt on an older model NE4313 Speed Queen electric dryer?

A:

To access and change the belt on your Speed Queen model NE4313 dryer you first remove the front panel and then the top.

There are two screws located at the bottom corners of the front panel. Remove the screws and pull out and up on the front panel. When the panel reaches approximately 70 degrees the top clips will release. With the front panel out of the way remove the two screws holding the top panel.

With the front and top panel removed you next remove the 4 bolts holding the front bulkhead to the cabinet. See the image below for a picture of this.

The 2nd image may help with the belt installation.

I hope this information helps with this project and remember to unplug the dryer from power before accessing any parts.
