Q:

How to Replace Roller Assembly on MTB2254EEW00 Refrigerator MTB2254EEW00 Maytag Top-mount refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing Searspartsdirect.com and being a valued member. I can certainly assist you in locating the instructions to replace the roller assembly on your refrigerator.

The roller adjusting bolts are Key 10 in this diagram. This bolt is on the front of the refrigerator frame (behind the front grill). It adjusts the height of the roller. You can remove this bolt on the roller that you are replacing. If you can safely tilt the refrigerator back and secure it on wood blocks so that it does not move while you remove the roller, then you don't necessarily have to follow all of the other steps in your instructions. You will need to carefully lean the refrigerator back far enough so that can access the rivet that holds the roller in place. You will need to remove the rivet and replace the roller. You may need to punch or drill the rivet out of the existing roller. This may be a challenging repair especially with the limited work space under the refrigerator. You may be able to find a bolt and nut at your local hardware store that you can use to secure the new roller instead of the rivet. Once you get the new roller in place, you can lower the refrigerator back down and replace the adjusting bolt. Properly level the refrigerator with a 1/2 bubble back tilt so that the doors swing shut properly.

Natasha, The thing that holds the roller assembly in place is the pivot pin Key 21 -- it looks like a nail. The flanged head of this nail goes thru a trough that is part of the base (Key 1 in another diagram) -- the head of the nail is not accessible because it is between the base and the side of the refrigerator. There looks to be a rivet on the side of the trough that is accessible but it is unclear what it does. Even if the rivet anchors the roller assembly, one must be able to remove the pivot pin from the trough and that looks to be impossible. The pivot pin holds the roller assembly to the trough so that the leveling screw Key 10 can adjust the height of the roller. There are four troughs in the base which is encased in steel so you cannot move the base up or down to any significant degree. They must have assembled the refrigerator top down with no regard for a broken roller assembly and hence no diagrams that show all the parts.
