Freezer problems that recur cause a lot of anxiety. It usually spreads to the refrigerator section also so I understand you would like to get this repaired once and for all. While you wait for the expert to answer you can check another Maytag freezer problem that seems similar to yours if you like. I attached that post below. Hope this ends up being an easy fix.

I'm sorry you are having this problem. You have received some good information but it will not pertain to this problem. Based on the information listed, this will be a defrost problem. A good check now will be to manually advance this unit into a defrost cycle. It can be a little tricky putting this unit into a defrost cycle. Make sure the unit is running and now disconnect power from the unit. The control panel will need to lowered to access the defrost control board (# 13 in picture). When you have access to the board, use a small jumper and place it between the L1 and Test terminals on the board. Do not disconnect the wire harness. All wires must still be in place. Now plug the unit back in and in a few minutes if you can hear a hissing sound inside the freezer, it indicates the heater element is on. This will indicate the defrost control board is not advancing and will need to be replaced. If nothing happens, the element and bi-metal thermostat will need to be checked. A technician may need to make these checks. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further.
