Q:

What do I need to do to get the fridge door to stay closed?

A:

A new door gasket as you probably noticed will be very wrinkled. There are 2 reasons a door won't close good after replacing the gasket.

The main reason will be the gasket itself. Unless all the wrinkles are smoothed out, it won't seal. There are 2 methods to smooth out a gasket.

  1. Soak the gasket in hot water for a minimum of 30 minutes
  2. Use a hair dryer on it
When using a hair dryer be careful not to get the gasket too hot and melt it.

The second reason the door may not be closing now, is because the inner door panel needs to be adjusted. When the door gasket is replaced, the screws holding the inner panel have to be loosened, to get the gasket off. The inner panel is what holds the door in the proper position. What happens a lot of times is the door will bow when the panel is loosened and as a result it won't close properly. Sometimes the door can just be popped back in place but other times the screws have to be loosened again and then pop the door back in place. This can be a tricky procedure and may take a technician to adjust it properly. If you need more assistance, you can resubmit your question with more details.
