Question and Answers

Q:

What needs to be done to fix this dispenser?

A:

The door solenoid will need to be checked. If it's stuck or not getting any voltage, the chute door will not open. First lift the plunger on the solenoid manually, to see if it's free or stuck. If it's stuck, try to adjust it, it may just be jammed. If it still won't move, the solenoid # 61005884 will need to be replaced. If it is free then a voltage check will need to be made. Leave all wires in place and check across both terminals on the solenoid. Be very careful making this type of check. When the dispenser is activated, you should have 115 volts to the solenoid. If the voltage is there, the solenoid will need to be replaced. If there is no voltage there and all other functions on the dispenser work, the dispenser board # 61005274 will need to be replaced. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Safety Notice: Be sure to disconnect the appliance before performing any troubleshooting procedures. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks or repairs that might be recommended, please contact a local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.

Q:

Can I replace the control buttons on my refrigerator escutcheon?

A:

The escutcheon comes as one piece and the buttons come with it. You will need to replace the whole escutcheon. I am including a set of illustrated instructions for a model that should be similar to yours (see images below); these will help you replace the escutcheon for your model. I intend for this to be a rough guide only. The pictures may not look exactly like your unit. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

I have included a link that you may use for parts purchases; please click the following Sears Parts Direct . Note: Make sure the serial number for your model starts with 11; the first 2 numbers of Maytag serial numbers designate the model series. The part I linked you to above is a series 11.

If you require further assistance please resubmit your question with more details. I will be looking forward to helping you again in the near future.
