Question and Answers

Q:

How do I remove and reinstall a loose door handle on my Maytag side by side refrigerator?

A:

To remove the door handle, you will need to insert the card that came with the unit, under the bottom of the door handle, between the panel and the handle. This is a small card, about the size of a credit card and when it's pushed up under the handle far enough, it will release the locking tab. When the locking tab is released lift up on the handle to remove it. To replace the handle, align the notches in the door handle with the supports in the door, insert the handle and then push it down to lock into place. If you can't locate the card that came with it, you can try a credit card although it may be too thick or a small thin putty knife. The card number is 67004112 and is available at www.searspartsdirect.com . I'm also sending a picture and instructions.

The best way to make sure the handle will stay secure is to replace the handle assembly. It should be an updated assembly, to help prevent the handle from coming loose again. The handle assembly number is 67004055 and is available at www.searspartsdirect.com .
