Question and Answers

Q:

door leaking at bottom MQU2057AEW Maytag Maytag upright freezer

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the water leaking from the door. I know how concerning that is.

This will more than likely be caused by water being frozen in the drain trough. However, it could also be caused by a defrost issue (excessively defrosting), and could be an issue with the defrost timer, heater, or thermostat. I would recommend removing the evaporator cover in the back of the unit, and inspect the drain trough to see if its frozen and iced over. If so, you can pour hot water from a turkey baster to melt and clear the icing.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-469-4663, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

My Maytag auto defrosting upright freezer accumulates water in the bottom & freezes. Manual doesn't describe my unit, model # doesn't come up online.

A:

The drain is freezing closed, which is causing the water to accumulate and freeze in the bottom. There is a kit, to help prevent this from happening. It's a Heat Sink Kit # 8201771 and it will come with instructions. It's available at SearsPartsDirect . I hope this will help you. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
