Question and Answers

Q:

MAYTAG EPIC Z MHWZ400TQ00

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to help with your washer. Upon researching model MHWZ400TQ00; I found the f-28 code is a serial communication error. I provided some information on the code with items to check.

SERIAL COMMUNICATION

ERROR

The communication between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU) cannot be sent correctly.

1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.

2. Check wire harness connections to the MCU, the motor and Central Control Unit (CCU). Check connections of the CCU board within the housing. Make sure all grounding switches are engaged.

3. Check the drive system for any worn or failed components.

4. Plug in washer or reconnect power.

5. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic Test or any cycle.

6. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor.

7. Check the drive motor for powered rotations.

8. Check that the serial harness at the MCU is not mounted upside down. The wires should be to the left when facing the MCU connectors.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

Be sure that you unplug the washer before beginning this procedure. The illustrated procedure for replacing the bellow door seal on this washer is provided in the images below. This is a fairly advanced repair. I recommend that you read through the entire procedure to make sure that you understand it and can complete it properly. Failure to properly install the bellow door seal can result in leaking and damage to the washer. If you are confident in your technical ability to properly replace this part and reassemble the washer then you should be able to complete the repair using the information provided below.

THANK YOU! I bought the part and was told "it is very easy to install, will come with instructions etc." I got it in a box with nothing. If it weren't for your good instructions, I would have had to pay someone to do it. Thank you! Although slightly different, this worked for my MFW9700SB0.
