Question and Answers

Q:

runs only4 3secs....why??? MH2175XSB0 Whirlpool Microwave

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

I can appreciate wanting to diagnose and repair the microwave yourself, however I strongly recommend against it. We do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. You need special equipment to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician by calling 1-800-469-4663. If the unit is not heating, there could be an issue with the magnetron ($36.87) or the transformer ($167.27). These parts are internal and are not serviceable except by a technician. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any repair. I recommend calling a service technician to repair this type of problem. Since the unit has failed once before you might even consider a maintenance agreement. Some are even available when the appliance is not working! You may consider just replacing the microwave. I hope this helps.
