Question and Answers

Q:

Whirlpool micro- MH1170XST-4 ERROR MSG

A:

I am sorry you are experiencing difficulties with your Microwave. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. I strongly suggest that you have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. I have provided a link To Sears Home Services if you decide to schedule service. Have a great day!

You changed the interlock switch which indicates you are capable of advance do-it-your-self projects. Unfortunately I am unable to provide much assistance with microwave repair. Microwaves are very dangerous to work on and some parts retain a lethal amount of voltage even after being unplugged. The diagram below may help you with the switches but I can not provide any additional instruction. The control is likely the problem but I can only suggest a technician repair the unit. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a lethal electrical charge of up to 2200 VAC -- even when the microwave is unplugged. Repairs and adjustments, even minor ones such as a door latch problem, can cause microwave leakage. A microwave shielding leakage test should be performed after any microwave service. It is for these safety reasons that we are unable to guide you in microwave repairs and instead recommend scheduling service with a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME. We thank you for your understanding in this matter and hope we can help you with other questions and repairs in the future.
