Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't the oven on my Kenmore range model MGF345BBDA light?

A:

The gas valve will not normally open unless the resistance through the ingiter decreases to a point where enough current flows through the gas valve to open it. The igniter will glow first before the gas valve opens. The valve does not open at the same time that the igniter begins glowing. Once the igniter heats up, the resistance through it decreases. The resistance will normally decrease to a point where enough current flows through the gas valve so that it opens. Unless the igniter was replaced and it was installed backwards or improperly, it would be a rare failure for the gas valve to open without ignition occurring. If the igniter has never been replaced and you are not smelling much or any gas, then replacing the igniter will likely fix this problem. The part number for the igniter is 5303935066.
