Q:

Refrigerator not cooling but freezer is working. MFD2560HES Maytag Maytag refrigeration

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear that the refrigerator temp is warm. I know how concerning that is to have happen.

This type of issue is normally caused by lack of air circulation from the freezer to the refrigerator. This could be caused if the evaporator fan inside the freezer is not working, or there is a defrost issue that causes the diffuser vent to freeze over. The diffuser itself could cause this issue if it's not opening.

If you open the freezer and hear the fan circulating and feel the chilled air, the evaporator motor is likely good. If you see an ice accumulation on the rear panel or liner walls, it's likely going to be a defrost issue. If that's the case, the defrost circuit will need to be tested with a meter to isolate the defective part. You can manually defrost the system by unplugging it and allowing it to sit for about 24 hours. Keeping the freezer door open will help to thaw it out. It will work for a week or so, but if there is a defrost issue, it will frost over again.

The damper control could be the problem. Look inside it and see if it is frosted up or closed. If the damper is closed, then it may need replacement. If It’s open and frosted, it will more than likely be an issue with the defrost.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-469-4663, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this problem with the refrigerator. The information you have received is very good. If the compressor is not running, it could be a problem with the starting device, the compressor itself or the condenser motor. If the motor is not running and the compressor is hot, the motor will need to be replaced. If the motor is running but not the compressor, it could be a problem with the compressor or the starting device on the compressor. Sometimes it can be difficult to determine, which of these components has failed. Now, if the starting device is burnt or if it rattles when shaken, it will indicate the starting device has failed. If both of these checks seem ok, a technician will have a kit and meter, he can attach to the compressor, that will determine if the compressor or starting device has failed. Without this kit and meter, a chance can be taken to replace the starting device # 67005560. If the compressor still won’t run or if it runs but then quits again, it will need to be replaced. If you would like to have a technician check this, I’m listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website:  Sears Home Services. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

Thanks for the information about your refrigerator model MFD 2560HES, sorry you are having this issue. Based on the description provided I would say that the compressor is not running or if it is running it is not pumping. I cannot determine that, as an onsite inspection would be required. _Always disconnect power supply before servicing the appliance and when testing live voltage be sure to wear proper safety equipment (gloves and eye protection) also be aware of sharp metals on product_If you have the testing equipment I have added the compressor specs below for your convenience. If you do not have the testing equipment and testing experience you could try replacing the overload/relay and the capacitor, much less expensive than a compressor or sealed system repair which I do not advise unless you are a refrigeration specialist.  If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.Ron H.
