Q:

Maytag MER6872BAB Range

A:

Good afternoon.... I can appreciate your wanting to do the job yourself and save $. It would be very helpful if you could include your full model number. I did locate a link that will discuss this situation in greater detail. Though this link discusses a different model number, the mechanics are likely going to be very similar. Have your tried turning the breaker off to the unit for at least 5 minutes? This action will reboot your unit back to it's factory settings. Keep in mind that an expert will be responding within the next two business days if not sooner and will likely offer you more information and instruction. I hope this link will help guide you as to what might be wrong with your range and have a nice day

Thanks for the reply. The breaker has been turned on and off several time as I spend yesterday working with my electrician and BGE (my power company) The neutral cable coming off the pole at my house was fried. Several appliances in the house that have flat surface control panels are not working (microwave, dishwasher). MER6872BAB is the model number on the range

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you're having this problem with the range. Power surges are rough on electronic controls. I see you have already tried resetting the control. The most likely problem will be just the electronic control # 5701M406-60. It's available at SearsPartsDirect . If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The door handle mounting screws will normally be inserted through the two holes in the door baffle (key#10) that would align with the holes in the door handle which holds the door trim (key#13) to oven door assembly. There a no written instructions for installing the door trim. The only step by step instructions available is below and it may not pertain exactly to your model.

To Disassemble Door:

  1. Open door to the stop position and lift door off hinges. Remove door and lay on protected surface, liner side up.
  2. Remove three (3) screws securing the door frame to the liner at the bottom.
  3. Remove two (2) side screws securing door frame to door liner.
  4. Remove four (4) screws securing the door trim at the top.
  5. Slide the door frame and glass off liner from the bottom.
  6. Remove four (4) screws securing the door handle to the door liner. (Two on the sides and two in front).
  7. Remove two (2) screws securing door baffle to liner.
  8. Remove four (4) screws securing door baffle to window pack. Remove baffle.
  9. Remove insulation wrap.
  10. Remove four (4) screws securing window pack to liner. Window pack comes out as an assembly.
  11. Door gasket can be replaced without door being disassembled by pulling gasket out of bottom insert of door. The gasket is secured with clips inserted into door liner.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
