Q:

have electric range mer6770aab sometimes oven goes off and reads F1-2. Any ideas?

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The F1-2 fault code implies a "runaway lower oven".  The oven temperature sensor probe will need to be disconnected and measured for proper Ohm resistance.

The oven temperature sensor probe should measure 1050-1100 Ohms of resistance at room temperature. The sensor is located inside the lower oven cavity in the upper rear corner.

To Access Oven Sensor:

  1. Disconnect the appliance from power source before servicing.
  2. Open oven door and remove two (2) screws securing sensor to oven cavity. Gently pull through cavity wall.
  3. Disconnect the oven sensor at the connector blocks and remove/replace as necessary.
  4. Reattach the connector blocks and reassemble.

If the oven temerature sensor measures 1050-1100 Ohms, then it likely has a faulty electonic control board or a loose or bad connection in the oven temperature sensor circuit where it connects to the electronic oven control board.

The oven sensor is part #12001656 for model MER6770AAB which can be ordered from Searspartsdirect.com

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.

Hi Ron,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

Yes, the thermal fuse must be good (closed) for voltage to reach the igniter. The other things that can cause this issue are a bad thermistor, faulty wiring, bad control board, or open thermostat. I am including the tech sheet for this dryer in the images below. I recommend checking the dryer for an error code first.

Please check the things I have detailed here and report back with your findings. I am looking forward to assisting you again in the near future.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Landell, I called sears repairman and he checked out everything and changed thermistor twice and then he ordered new control board. Put it in and still won't ignite. It sets E2 code and that's the thermistor. He won't be back for a week.. I would guess the old board was still good. He checked for power and said that it was bad and that's why my ignitor doesn't have power. I'm covered for this by service agreement policy.

Hi Kuts, I am sorry that you are still having this issue. From your description, if the thermistor and the control have been replaced and you still get the E2 error, I recommend checking the wiring and connections between the control board and the thermistor. I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post. Landell

Hi Kuts, It sounds like the repairman has covered the bases. From everything you have told me, I am reasonably certain replacing the wiring harness will fix this dryer. If after the service man replaces the harness you still have this issue, let me know and I will try to assist you further. Landell

Landell, repalaced harness and got temporary power to igniter. Repair woman then replaced igniter even thogh old checked good. It worked and now dryer is OK. Also repalced thermistor (3 times!!) and she said it was connected wrong. Turned wires around and it worked. Took a month to get it going @ $640 cost. Unbelievable. Thanks for your info & help.
