Thank you for choosing ManageMyLife and allowing us the opportunity to help with this repair of your Maytag dryer. It sounds like the motor is overheating and tripping the overload. With the dryer empty, spin the drum manually to check for excessive friction. The drum should turn with reasonable resistance since it has the belt around the motor pulley. If it is extremely difficult to turn, then you may need to open the cabinet and check the drum seals and support rollers for problems. If the drum turns okay, then you may need to replace that drive motor. Another possible cause could be the thermal fuse. The usual reason that the thermal fuse trips is because of an air flow blockage caused by lint. If it has been a long time since the inside of the dryer and the dryer vent exhaust system has been cleaned it will reduce the air flow and cause the area where the thermal fuse is to get to hot. If you have checked and clean the vent system the other possibility is the wire terminal connections on the end of the wire harness that attaches to the terminals on the thermal fuse. Look at the replacement thermal fuse connections and wires to see if they are discolored or burnt. If they are, it will cause a high resistance connection which creates its own heat and over heats the fuse. If that is the case then you will need to cut back the wire connecters as far as you can but still reach the fuse connections are repair the wire ends with new terminals.
