Q:

My Maytag electric dryer wont start...Model # med5600tq0

A:

There could be several possible failures preventing your Maytag dryer from starting.

  • Timer
  • Door switch
  • Thermal fuse
  • Motor
  • Loose or disconnected wire
  • Voltage supply

I recommend checking the voltage supply to the dryer first. NOTE: I do not recommend checking voltages unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so, otherwise I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your Maytag dryer.

I recommend disconnecting the power cord and removing the rear panel. The thermal fuse is located on the blower housing. The thermal fuse will have two blue wires connected to it. Disconnect the two blue wires and test the thermal fuse for continuity using an Ohm meter. It should measure continuity. If you find the thermal fuse open/no continuity, be sure to check the venting system for any restrictions or blockages before replacing the thermal fuse and drying a load.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
