Question and Answers

Q:

I think i need to replace my high limit thermostat? Maytag Maytag laundry

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your dryer. Upon researching modelMDG9700AWW; The thermostats on the dryer normally sense the air temperature inside the dryer and control the element on electric dryers and the burner on the gas models. If one of the thermostats fails the dryer may no longer heat. It does sound like the hi limit thermostat could be causing the problem. I have posted a link below for the gas and electric model showing the different thermostats .The model number provided is made in the different versions, gas or electric please verify which is the version you have before ordering.

If you have any further questions please re-post. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

Q:

Dryer heats up for a few minutes and then blows cool air MDG9700AWW Maytag Maytag laundry

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is trouble with the dryer.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Maytag Dryer model number MDG9700AWW.

First thing for safety and concerns to keep dryer running well is to check the lint screen and vent of air flow going out of the house.   If clogged up it could cause heating problems on any dryer.

To prevent a Blocked Vent Hood, once a year:

1.  Clean any lint blockage from the exhaust vent hood.
2.  Make sure the vent hood flappers move freely.
3.  Check for screen/grate openings that allow bird or rodent nests.
4.  Replace exhaust vent hood if damaged.
5.  Check for good air flow while running the dryer.
Note: Poor airflow or decreased airflow indicates further vent system cleaning is needed.

The lint if not cleaned out of the lint trap and the the vents going out of the dryer and check to where it extends out of the house.  One thing to help and cleaning it once a week so this doesn't happen again is a lint brush.   I have a lint brush on the link below.  The lint can get into the motor and heating parts to cause this problem.

I would grab an ohm meter and test the following thermostats also.   MAKE sure you check both of them because it could be a mixture of them.

On the heating element there is thermoat key 14 and key number 15.
