Q:

Maytag Neptune dryer lights come on but wont run. MDE6800AYW Maytag Dryer

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is trouble with the dryer not running.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Maytag Dryer model number mde6800ayw.

First thing for safety and concerns to keep dryer running well is to check the lint screen and vent of air flow going out of the house.   If clogged up it could cause heating problems on any dryer.

To prevent a Blocked Vent Hood, once a year:

1.  Clean any lint blockage from the exhaust vent hood.
2.  Make sure the vent hood flappers move freely.
3.  Check for screen/grate openings that allow bird or rodent nests.
4.  Replace exhaust vent hood if damaged.
5.  Check for good air flow while running the dryer.
Note: Poor airflow or decreased airflow indicates further vent system cleaning is needed.

After you make sure of the vent the items that should be checked out can be verified by an ohm meter.

First though close the dryer door a little harder than normal to make sure it is closed securely.

Items to check after that to get the dryer running again:

1.  Door switch for model MDE6800AYW

2.  Thermal fuse (behind blower) model MDE6800AYW

3.  Thermostat (behind blower) model MDE6800AYW

If you have further questions please let me know.
Thanks for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I know you said you unplugged the dryer for 24 hours,It could have a failed machine control board.

If the cycle complete light will not turn off by pressing Pause/Cancel, opening and closing the door or by unplugging and plugging it back in the failure could be the control board.

You will need to remove the top panel in order to access the control board for replacement. I am sending you the instructions from the service manual in the attachment provided below. Remember to disconnect power to the dryer before attempting access. Please click on the attachment below for details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician.

SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.

I am replying to your answer about my hung display on my Maytag Neptune Dryer. The attachments you sent seem to be for a different dryer. Things dont match up. I learned that my dryer is made to be serviced from the front. I wanted to eliminate the thermal fuses & thermostat as the cause of my problem & to get to them I had to remove the dryer door & drop down the front panel. At the top front, on either side are metal tabs holding the top on. From the front I was able to access the components which checked out good with an ohm meter. After putting evey thing back, I removed the top back panel to access the control board. I removed the ribbon cable from the membrane & performed a continuity check when each button is pressed per the diagnostic chart when the dryer is off. They were ok. Before doing all this, my display was hung in pause & the panel would not take any commands. The display looked normal but was frozen. The only button it would respond to was the air fluff button which put the dryer in a diagnostic mode when held down for 2 seconds. There, all the panel lights would light in sequence until the air fluff button was again pressed for 2 seconds. It would then return to the normal operating mode which was still frozen. When I reconnected the ribbon cable & plugged the dryer back in, it worked normally when I pressed the start/pause button. I opened the door & the dryer stopped. I repeated this & it worked a few times & then went back to a frozen display & would not work. The control board did work for a while. Do you think it is still the cause of the problem?
