Q:

Dryer won't start. MDE5500AYQ Maytag Maytag laundry

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is trouble with the laundry system.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Maytag  model number mde5500ayq.

In helping with your dryer.  The first thing to let everyone know is that they must first check there lint screen.  Pull it out and make sure the vent the screen goes into is not plugged.   Next check the vent area where it goes outside the house.   A dryer has to have a free movement of air to prevent heating problems and fire hazzards.

I am sorry but what you  are going to need is first check your wire connections behind the control board.   Make sure there is no bare wire/wires and that they are firmly plugged in.

Second you will need a new control board.  To get the correct control board, I will need the serial number also because there are different control boards per the serial number per this model.

If you have further questions please let me know.
Thanks for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

If the lights are on but the motor will not run then I'd suggest you first check the thermal fuse. The image below will show you the location of the thermal fuse. The 2nd image shows how to remove the front panel. Remember to unplug the dryer first. The thermal fuse can be checked for continuity if a meter is available. You can reply with any additional details or questions for further assistance. The thermal fuse can be obtained from the following link: Maytag model MDE5500AYQ Thermal Fuse . Thank you for taking the time to submit a question.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Without knowing the model number of your specific dryer I can only provide general information. The first thing that must be verified is if the control board is getting the proper voltage supply. If the control board is getting the correct voltage then it could have a faulty control board or touch panel.

If you feel confident in repairing the dryer yourself, add the model number to the post for model specific troubleshooting assistance. You will need a volt/Ohm meter and you will also know how to use it. You will also need to check voltages and if you do not feel confident and safe in doing so, I strongly suggest calling a service technician to properly diagnose and repair your dryer.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you very much for your response!! My model number is MDE5500AYQ. I checked the voltage this weekend and all the wires coming into the control board were giving off proper power and the control board was not receiving power. So i just assumed it was a bad control board. Well, i replaced the control board today and it still does not work. I cant understand what else it could be. I mean, there is power going to the dryer because the light comes on when i open the dryer door and all the wires going to the control board are giving off power. The only other thing that i can think would be is if the actual display is bad. Do you think i am on the right track? any other advice? what else could it be? Again, thanks for the response and thanks for trying to get this solved. Looking forward to your reply... Shaun

Shaun: If the control is getting 120 volts across the white and black wires, the console assembly is faulty.
