One thing to clear up is that the motor circulates the water after the fill valve puts water in the tub. The dishwasher might fill but the motor must circulate the water. You should hear the motor running. The motor runs one direction to circulate the water and reverses direction to drain the water out. If the water drains out then the motor is likely okay. If the motor will run in one direction to drain but does not run the other direction to wash then the timer may be at fault. Try to verify the motor is running in the wash cycle and let me know.

How do i remove the lower spray arm of my Maytag Dishwasher model MDC4100AWX?

If the spray arms do not rotate , the dishes are not getting cleaned. Getting this fixed before more water and energy is wasted is important. There should be a nut holding the spray arm. I believe the following video will show how to do this: Removing Maytag Dishwasher Lower Spray Arm . The vinegar soak should help but I have seem mineral build up so bad the parts had to be replaced. The video is of a similar model but it should help.

Thanks Barbara. One of those responses helped me figure out how to take apart the lower spray arm. I did that and cleaned up the rinse arm assembly, pump filter and filter plate. There was a lot of lime deposits, especially clogging up the vent holes on the rinse arm assembly, item 7 here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=47146&diagram_id=28469558#d28469558 The water sprays more forcefully now but the rinse arm assembly is still sticking when it turns. Seems to get caught slightly on the pump housing. Is the rinse arm just old and or is there something else worn causing this? Appreciate any ideas.

Thanks Fred. While I was responding to Barbara I was running it once again with some "salts" I had recommended to me for cleaning it and now the lower spray arm is turning nicely. We'll see if it stays fixed. Which parts would you recommend I replace if it starts sticking again?

A common cause for this type of leak would be a hole in the tub of the dishwasher. Pull out the bottom rack and carefully check for a pin hole or deformity in the back left corner of the tub. I recommend using a strong flashlight. It may be hard to see. If a hole is found in the tub, service can be scheduled at the following link: Sears Home Services . According to your owner's manual, the plastic tub on this model has a 20 year warranty. This type of failure is usually covered by the warranty. I provided you with a link to the owner's manual below, for more information on the warranty (pg. 12).

Owner's Manual

Other causes for leaks in this area could be a leaking drain pump or busted drain line. A leaking sump could also cause this problem. I recommend pulling the lower panel off & using a flashlight to inspect underneath the dishwasher for the source of the leak.
