I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your dishwasher. The electrical schematic below shows that the door switches must be closed for the circuit board to get power. If you are able to disconnect electrical power and access the wiring to these switches, you can verify that they ware closing properly by checking the resistance through the wiring. If one or both switches are not closing properly, this could be causing your problem. If you are certain that the circuit board is getting power and has neutral conductivity, then the circuit board could be bad and may need to be replaced. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

A model number always helps with a more complete answer but at this point I would suggest the console has a stuck or shorted keypad.

One thing that should be checked firs is if the control has been "locked out" by mistake. If the heated dry button is pressed and held then the "control lock" led should toggle on or off.

Reply with a model number for a more specific answer.

Q:

What can I do about stagnant water left in the sump of my Maytag model MDBTT79AW dishwasher?

A:

Foam sounds a lot like suds and one inch of water/foam/suds doesn't sound like the pump is working that good.

You say the water completely drains out and if it does and there is foam then there is a suds problem. The rinse agent can cause this but you eliminated that possibility. Soft water can suds even with a small amount of soap but this can be checked during the cycle. Open the door and check for excessive suds during the wash.

Check the drain hose routing. An improperly installed drain hose can allow water from the sink to drain back into the dishwasher.

There will always be a small amount of water in the tub even after drain. This is normal and desirable to keep the seals wet so draining the dishwasher completely by lowering the drain hose over a shallow pan is not a good option. You'd loose the stagnant water but the seals would dry out and you'd get a leak trading one problem for another.

There are two suggestions to help with the stagnant water. The first would be to put a couple of tablespoons of bleach into the water. The bleach should prevent any mold from forming. You'd want to run a high temp wash to rinse everything out before washing dishes in it.

The other thing that can be added to the water is RV/Marine antifreeze. This will mix with the water and is not poisonous are harmful and should prevent any mold/mildew from forming.

I hope this information is helpful to you but submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.
