The installation instructions are not very clear. Typically, you do not need an air gap if the drain is connected to the the sink or disposer >20" above the floor and above a trap. The sink drain or disposer wil act as your syphon break. If you run the drain down into a connection in the basement (for example), you will ned an air gap installed to break a possible syphon situation.

I agree with Chat in RI about the lack of clarity regarding the installation of the drain hose in the installation guide for that dishwasher. He also provided some accurate advice regarding the installation of that drain hose if you do not plan to use an air gap. The dishwasher has the drain hose routed over a bracket as shown in the first image below to provide an anti-siphon drain loop in that drain path. I posted some more specific guidelines for drain hose installation options in the second image. Those guidelines are for a similar model of dishwasher. That should help you properly and safely install that drain hose for your dishwasher. Local codes should be followed when installing that drain hose. Certain areas (such as California) require that an air gap be installed in that drain line path.
