Q:

How do I try to reset (which buttons to press) a Maytag MDBH955AWS dishwasher? If that doesn't work, how can I make a diagnosis of the problem ?

A:

Thank you for your question.  I am sorry for the problem with your Maytag MDBH955AWS Dishwasher.  You should be able to select all cycles and options even if the unit will not run.  The image below contains more information on the control panel and keypads.  There are two diagnostic tests you can try to run.  If a meter is available then the keypad touch circuit can be checked.  I hope the information in the image is helpful to you.  You can reply below with any additional details or questions for further assistance.  There is also information in the Control/Child Lock feature that will prevent the keypads from working.

A:

The installation instructions are not very clear. Typically, you do not need an air gap if the drain is connected to the the sink or disposer >20" above the floor and above a trap. The sink drain or disposer wil act as your syphon break. If you run the drain down into a connection in the basement (for example), you will ned an air gap installed to break a possible syphon situation.

A:

I agree with Chat in RI about the lack of clarity regarding the installation of the drain hose in the installation guide for that dishwasher. He also provided some accurate advice regarding the installation of that drain hose if you do not plan to use an air gap. The dishwasher has the drain hose routed over a bracket as shown in the first image below to provide an anti-siphon drain loop in that drain path. I posted some more specific guidelines for drain hose installation options in the second image. Those guidelines are for a similar model of dishwasher. That should help you properly and safely install that drain hose for your dishwasher. Local codes should be followed when installing that drain hose. Certain areas (such as California) require that an air gap be installed in that drain line path.

I hope that this additional information helps. If you need more assistance, let us know.
