Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I understand how frustrating it can be when the dishwasher doesn't work. Possible causes, based on your symptoms, are the door latch and door switch. When you shut the dishwasher door, make sure you hear the click indicating that the door is shut. If the door does not click closed, the latch may need to be replaced. You can test your door switch for continuity with a multimeter if you have one and are comfortable with using it. Below are instructions on how to replace the latch and switch if need be.
SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks that might be recommended, please contact your local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.

Replacing the Latch
1. Turn off the power for the dishwasher. Either unplug it from the outlet or turn off the circuit that controls the dishwasher at the main switch.

2. Open the dishwasher door to the fully opened position.

3. Remove the inner door panel. This is held in place with Torx screws, so you need either a Torx screw set or adapter. Unscrew the screws and set them aside. Gently lift up the panel from the door. It is attached to two wiring harnesses that need to be disconnected before you can remove the panel from the door. Disconnect the door from the harnesses by pulling apart the wires at the plugs where they connect.

4. Remove the two screws holding the latch in place. Set them aside. Use needle-nose pliers to pull off the wires attached to the handle. Pull the wires by the metal plug on the end, not by the wire itself, to avoid damaging them.

5. Press the two tabs on either side to remove the door latch and housing. Insert the new latch and housing into the socket, and press in place until you hear the tabs click. Reattach the wires to the switch and secure with the two screws.

6. Place the inner door on top of the door assembly. Reattach the wiring harnesses by plugging them back in.

7. Secure the inner door with the Torx screws. Restore the power to the dishwasher by plugging it back in or switching the circuit back on.

Replacing the Switch
1. Find the circuit breaker for the Maytag dishwasher in the home electrical panel and turn the circuit breaker off.

2. Open the dishwasher door to the fully open position. The inner door panel secures to the outer panel using Torx screws. Remove the Torx screws along the sides and top of the inner door panel with a Torx driver.

3. Separate the inner door panel from the outer door panel. You will need to disconnect the two wiring harnesses connecting the vent and dispenser wax motors. The wiring harnesses will pull apart with your fingers. Set the inner door panel aside.

4. Remove the wires from the door switch with a pair of needle nose pliers. Pull the wires at the leads where they connect to the switch terminals. Remove the two screws that secure the door latch holder to the outer door panel with a Phillips head screwdriver.

5. Lift the door latch and switch holder assembly out of the dishwasher door. Press the two locking tabs on the switch inward to release the switch from the door latch housing.

6. Install the new switch into the latch housing by pressing the switch into the housing until the switch locks into place. Place the door latch housing back into position and secure the housing to the outer door with the retaining screws.

7. Connect the wires to the door switch by sliding the metal wire leads over the switch terminal ends. Position the inner door panel back over the inside of the outer door and reconnect the vent and wax dispenser motor wiring harnesses.

8. Set the inner panel into position and secure the panel to the outer door using the Torx retaining screws. Close the dishwasher door and turn the circuit breaker back on to the dishwasher.
