I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your dishwasher. The grinding sound that you are hearing can only be one of three parts, either the impeller, the chopper blade, or the pump motor. The impeller and the chopper blade will only make this sound if there is a foreign object keeping them from rotating. The housing for the impeller blade should not be loose. It could be rubbing against the impeller which is causing the sound. If the impeller is jammed, then the wash arm assembly will not turn. I would suggest that you replace this housing first. If you are still getting the sound, check to make sure the chopper blade is turing. If it is, replace the pump motor. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Alina, neither were helpful for my Maytag, but ty anyway. I used youtube to do it, BUT the arm unit doesn't spin as freely as it did before. Now I'm trying to figure that out.
