Hi Walt,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

Even though the lid switch appears to be functional, we are aware of an issue with intermittent contact of the lid switch causing "stops mid-cycle", "not spinning", "wet clothes", "poor draining" complaints. There may be an intermittent contact inside the lid switch. When the contacts open, this indicates to the machine that the lid is open and the washer turns off. When checked, the switch appears to operate normally and ohms out correctly.

To identify this condition, turn on the washer and set into agitation or spin. While washer is running, wiggle the wire harness and connector attached to the lid switch. If the contacts are "bad", the washer will shut off. If the washer shuts off, replace the lid switch.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or to purchase any parts needed; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here, and if I may be of further assistance, include more details in a reply to this post.

Thanks Landell I'll give the switch another look although it seems a bit odd that it works fine on the agitate cycle but not on the spin. I removed it (with the wiring harness still in place) and manually manipulated it before with no stoppage. Never had a stopping issue on any cycle at any time. In fact, everything on the washer is operable except the spinning cycle. When looking underneath the unit, the pulley is spinning on the transmission and the discharge pump...both running but the drum is not moving. Could this be a thrust bearing issue? thanks for your help... Walt

Walt,

I am sorry; I misunderstood you. If the motor is running and the belt is turning the drive pulley counterclockwise you could have a brake assembly that is binding, a problem with the thrust bearing, a binding tub seal or a number of other failures that would prevent the washer from spinning.

I am including a set of images below that should help you find the issue.

The washer will agitate but it won't spin.

If the washer is agitating then the motor is most likely okay but a few more details would be helpful.

You don't mention if the water drains out of the washer. This washer has a longer drain cycle before it tries to spin. It may stay in drain for 5 minutes but the water should be draining for the first couple of minutes. If the drain pump is not working then the washer will not be able to spin.

The no spin will not be caused by a bad lid switch. On this particular washer a bad lid switch would prevent water fill or motor operation.

The best way to determine your problem is to run a diagnostic cycle. In the test you can check each function to see what is failing.

If the washer is agitating but not spinning the cause could be a bad brake actuator or control board.

Try the test and with additional details I may be able to assist you further.

This is a non digital model..no LED's except for a "CLEAN" and an "AUTO TEMP CONTROL".No touchpads. Model MAV8757AWQ. It drains fine (new pump installed already) but during the drain cycle it just continues to drain---even after 10- 15 min on an empty tub.
