Question and Answers

Q:

Out of Balance MAV5920EWW Maytag Maytag laundry

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I definitely understand the frustration with having the tub slam like that its not good. I will be more then happy to assist you. On this maytag washer im not showing, a switch to indicate when off balance. There are 6 springs that compensate for the weight distribution on this washer. If even one of those are broke or damaged, then the washer would do just what its doing. These springs are located at the very bottom of the tub. Click Here to find out more information on the spring kit, and also to order it. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can Click Here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663. Hope this information has help you, any further questions or concerns please feel free to comment back, thanks.

Q:

Why is my Maytag washer making noise when starting to spin?

A:

Something like this is usually caused by the brake not fully releasing or the motor. On this model when the motor reverses for spin the transmission pulley lifts a helix that causes the brakes to release. If the brake is dragging you will get a growling whining type of noise. I recommend checking the thrust bearing for proper brake release. There is also a damper pad kit available that helps with noise from the motor & base area. Please see the images provided for more details. The thrust bearing kit comes with installation instructions. Other possibilities; transmission, pump or motor bearings.
