Question and Answers

Q:

my whirlpool washing machine agitates but will not drain water. I don't hear moter humming, it acts as though the washer is off.

A:

From the description you give the most likely cause of this problem is a broken lid switch.

If the washer will fill and agitate then the motor is most likely okay. A broken lid switch will allow the washer to fill and agitate but it won't allow it to drain and spin.

There is a strike on the lid that activates the lid switch and sometimes this is broken. With a broken strike the switch won't activate when the lid is closed.

The 3949247 lid switch can be obtained from the following link: Sears PartsDirect .

The image below will show you how to access the lid switch by raising the console and removing the cabinet. Remember to unplug the washer first.

The image also shows you how to bypass the lid switch to check it. Use caution if you try this.

I hope this information is helpful to you but submit another question with any additional detail for further assistance.

A:

Fred, Thank you for your expert advise. However, The part # that you recommended doesn't seem to fit in mywashers console. The wiring harness attaches to the following part # 3948323c. This has 12 wires going into it.
