Hi,

Thank you for your question and for letting me assist you with your repair.

The basket is frozen to the block drive. This is caused by detergent and time. I have taken the basket and tipped it to one side and really pressed down on it the break it loose. Sometimes I have had to use a cold chisel and cut the basket loose. Weight can sometimes help but not all the time. Let me tell you a story, customer could not afford new basket and the old was welded to the block drive, The customer had nothing to lose, so I used a chair and placed one foo into the basket and pressed hard down and turned the basket 90 degrees and did it once more, I turned the basket again 90 degrees and place my weight on one foot into the basket and it broke loose. Not recommending this, but penetrating oil and rust buster is just not going to get to where you need to spray it. Rock it from side to side and move the basket, hopefully it will break loose and you will not have to cut the basket off. By the way if you look at the pictures, this is from a 5 year old at the time washer. Dirty is it not? All washer are for the most part dirty between the basket and the tub.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance please include more details in a reply to this entry below.

Bill, Thanks for the insight. I had a feeling this was going to be a tough fix. Aside from my idea of removing the inner tub and checking for sand build-up, do you have any other suggestions for how I should diagnose my problem? Again, thanks for the help.

Also, as a heads-up, this appliance is a stacked unit. The dryer sits atop the washer.

Other than cleaning the pump, the only other way is to clean the tub. Here is another idea about the stuck basket You used a spanner the remover the nut and if you used a lever of the spanner like a punch, punch where the slot is and on the opposite side of the slot to drive the block drive on a little more, sometimes this will spread the block drive enough to pull the basket and block drive off.
