Question and Answers

Q:

why won't my washer drain when it is supposed to? lsr8444lq0 Whirlpool Washer

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I understand how frustrating it can be when the washer does not drain properly. Since you have already replaced the timer and if you have an ohm meter and are comfortable with using it,  I recommend testing your drain pump. The pump should read between 5-10 ohms. A zero or infinity reading means that the pump should be replaced.
I have included a link to our PartsDirect page where you can purchase the part you need to complete your repair. Just click the blue link below to be taken to the page.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The top/augur portion of the agitator is designed to move or ratchet in one direction only when there is enough friction applied to the augur. To test the ratchet mechanism place your hand on top of the agitator and the auger should move in only one direction.

If the auger is not moving when you lay you hand on top, then I suggest replacing the agitate dogs. To access and replace the agitate dogs (part#80040) you will need to remove the fabric dispenser and the barrier cap below it. To remove the barrier cap pull up with some force. Once you have the barrier cap remove, remove the bolt down the center of the auger. Lift the augur up and off. Lay your palm over the end of the auger and flip it upside down. Remove and replace the 4 agitate dogs and reassemble the auger. Note: It helps to hold the agitate dogs and cam upside down and auger and then place the auger over the assembly and hold it in place and flip the auger over. Place the auger back onto the auger and re-install the bolt, barrier cap and dispenser.

I found a YouTube video showing how to replace the agitate dogs.

You can order the agitate dogs from Sears PartsDirect

Q:

What might the problem if my Whirlpool washer won't spin with heavy loads?

A:

The clutch assembly is likely worn causing the spin basket to not spin every time or it could be a gear case failure too. In order to access and replace the clutch assembly will require placing the control panel in the service position in order to remove the lid switch harness connector, cabinet retainer clips and washer cabinet. The agitator, pump, motor and gear case will have to be removed in order to remove and replace the clutch assembly.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer.
