Thank you for submitting your question. I understand your concern and I will be happy to assist you. I was able to bring up the agitator dogs (80040) for your washer under your parts list. Click here to view this information. To replace the dogs please follow these steps:

  1. Remove the fabric softener dispenser from the top of the agitator.
  2. Remove the agitator cover by pulling it up.
  3. You should see a plastic piece that has a square hole in the center. You need to insert a 1/2 inch drive extension into the hole. Then turn it counter clockwise to remove this retainer.
  4. Remove the cam out of the top portion of the agitator and replace the dogs.
  5. Reassemble the washer in the reverse order and test the operation.

I hope this helps. Please reply back to this thread if you require further assistance. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Thanks both of you for your suggestions, however, it does not appear that this model, #LSR5233ANO, has the agitator dogs like you both suggested, and like my Kenmore washer, model #110-82881110. When I took it apart like you mentioned above, there was no evidence of agitator dogs to be replaced. Are you sure agitator dogs are parts for this model. I was not able to find a schematic drawing of the various parts for this washer model. Were either of you able to find such drawings showing the various parts that go with this washer?

Tim, I looked up the model number again. Your LSR5233ANO model number does not come up in the system at all. However, model number LSR5233AW0 does. Which should be the same because usually the last digits of a model number are in reference to color. The link below will provide the diagrams for the LSR5233AW0 unit. You'll want to click on the "Agitator, Basket and Tub". The dogs are key #10.

Tykara, thanks. I will go ahead and place an order for the agitator dogs. I replaced these on my Kenmore washer, so consider me an expert agitator dog installer!! ;) What confused me is when I took the washer apart, I did not see an agitator dog pieces, like I did on my Kenmore. I am wondering if my brother, who I own the second house with, "cleaned out" the pieces, and did not tell me. We will see. Thanks, again.

Q:

How do I get to the dogs on my Whirlpool washer?

A:

I added a couple of images below to reference.

To access the agitate dogs:

  1. Pry off the agitator cap (key#1)
  2. Pull the barrier cap off
  3. Remove the 7/16 inch screw
  4. Lift the auger up and off (key#3)
  5. Flip the auger over while holding your hand over the top
  6. The driven cam (key#9) and the agitate dogs (key#10) should fall out in you hand.
  7. Reverse the procedure to install the agitate dogs and auger.
