Thank you for your question. I am sorry you are having a problem with the washer. By what you have stated I suspect the agitator dogs are worn. The dogs allow the top portion of the agitator to ratchet. I have provided you with an image below showing where the dogs are located. The agitator will move slightly side to side otherwise it might bind when it should ratchet. I recommend checking the dogs first. If you need to order the dogs the part number is 80040 and can be ordered from our parts website Sears Parts Direct .

I have provided you with another image that will help with accessing the dogs.

Please let me know if you need further assistance with this problem. Thank you for using Manage my life.

Ok, I have a Whirlpool Washimg Machine Model # LSQ9549PW6. The knob broke that is used to select the load size (xs, sm, med, lg. xlg). I ordered and replaced the knob, however, the knob did not catch onto load sizes. The knob just spun around. Next I ordered and replaced the Water-Level Switch. I did this by removing the control panel and replaced the switch, next I put the control panel in place and reinstalled the knob. Havving the same problem. Please HELP! I cannot afford a repair man.

Nancy: Pull the knob off and look inside the shaft of the knob and there should be a metal insert in the center of the shaft. If the metal insert part #8536939 is missing, the knob will slip on the water level shaft instead of turning the shaft.

Thanks Joey, There is a metal insert insert inside the shaft of the knob. I have even had sears send me another set of parts, however, I have tried to see if the second knob and water level switch work together before installing them. The knob still is slipping on the water level shaft. I thought I should try the second set of parts first to see if they would work together, because I installed he first set of parts twice and each time it took me over an hour just to get the screws out to remove the control panel ( which was the only hard part of the job). Can you give m e any more advice? Thank You!

A:

Nancy: The the knob/shaft should simply slip over the shaft of the water level switch. The knob shaft with the metal insert should take up any space between the pressure switch stem and the stem of the knob and it should fit tight enough so it does not slip. I assume the part number of the water level pressure switch ordered and recieved is part #3366845. Also, you should only need to remove a couple of screws in order to place the control panel in the service position. Once the two screws are removed securing the control panel to the main top, slide the console towards the front of the washer and then lift it up and hinge it over the rear panel.
