Q:

WASHER NOT ALWAYS SPINNING.

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom and details it still sounds like the drive block spanner nut is not tightened enough which is allowing the basket to slip and spin on the drive block.

Remove the agitator so that you can view the basket and drive block and see if the drive block or basket is slipping on the basket drive tube when it begins spinning and when release the lid switch. There are two little ears on the tip of the basket drive tube which the drive block cut out notches should align with the two ears when the drive block was installed. Then the basket is set down over the drive block and then the spanner nut locks the basket to the drive block. Based on the loud rumbling sound indicates the drive block is slipping on the basket drive tube. Make sure the ears on the tip of drive tube aligns with the two notches on the drove block and then tighten the spanner nut with enough torque to prevent the drive block from slipping on the drive tube.

I added an image where it shows how the drive block should aligned with the basket drive tube.

his may be the issue. If not, please reply and I will be glad to assist you further.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

It will be difficult to say where the whining noise is emitting from without personally hearing it for myself. I suspect it could be coming from the drain pump or possible from a broken motor coupler. The washer cabinet will need to be taken off the base in order to access the drain pump.

The console will need to placed in the service position in order to disconnect the lid switch harness connector and to access and remove the two cabinet clips. Once this has been done, the cabinet can be taken off. See images below. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing.

You can remove the pump from the motor leaving the two pump hoses connected and then run the washer in agitation to see if the noise is still there or not.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

BEFORE I CHECK OUT THE PUMP AND COUPLER, COULD THE USE OF MINERAL SPIRITS HAVE DONE ANYTHING TO THE MACHINE? ALSO, I HAD PULLED APART THE AGITATOR TO CLEAN IT AND NOW WONDER IF THE RE-ASSEMBLY OF THE AGITATOR WAS DONE CORRECTLY.

A:

Jane: I do not believe mineral spirits would cause any harm. If it whines during drain and spin then it has nothing to do with the agitator. You can remove the agitator and then see if it continues to whine. If it continues to whine then we know it's not related to the agitator.

I FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS THE AGITATOR MAKING THE NOISE. WHEN I CLEANED THE WAXY DYE OFF, I ALSO WIPED OFF ALL THE GREASE ON THE AGITATOR SPINDLE AND THRUST WASHER. I USED PLUMBERS' GREASE AND THE NOISE IS GONE. IS THIS OK?
