Thank you for choosing and allowing us to help you.

If the dryer's timer advances at all when it's in the auto dry cycle or if it advances but will not advance to the off position, then you could have a faulty timer. If it does not advance at all in the auto dry, then it could have loose or broken wire. Check the orange wire for any loose or burnt connections. The orange wire connects to the timer, temperature switch and to the operating thermostat. The timer motor should have 120 volts measured across terminals OR and WH only when the operating thermostat opens or another words when the burner shuts off. If the burner is cycling off and on, I recommend checking the Orange wire connection at the timer, temperature switch and at the operating thermostat. As long as the operating thermostat is close and the burner is on, there should be not voltage measured across timer terminal OR and WH when set to auto dry. Once the clothes get hot and the operating thermostat opens and turns off the burner, then the timer should have 120 volts measured across terminals OR and WH. The timer will cost 97.50 plus tax. Click here to view and order any required parts for your specific model Morge/Maytag gas dryer at the website. Your dryer is about 12 years old. You may want to consider replacing rather than repairing this older dryer if the parts cost start to add up. The average life expectancy of a gas dryer is 13 years.

NOTE: I do not recommend measuring any voltages unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so; otherwise I strongly suggest calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dryer.

SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs.  Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others. Wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

If you do not feel comfortable repairing this problem yourself, you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Click here to schedule service at the Sears Home Services website. A 10% discount coupon is available when service is set online.
